How would you describe the character of the Lussa Gin?
Lussa Gin is a zesty, aromatic dry gin using fresh and zingly lemon thyme balanced with juniper and a touch of warmth from coriander, all bound together with the smoothness of rosehip and rose petals.
What is special about the Lussa Gin?
We are three women who grow and gather our botanicals from the Isle of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland. Uniquely we freeze the majority of our botanicals, rather than drying them to create a zesty, aromatic gin.
Jura has a population of just over 200 people and is a two ferry journey from the mainland.
We start with a base spirit, made with grain then add our spring water in the 100 litre alembic, copper pot still called Hamish. Most of our botanicals go into the pot with the exception of our tender flower petals like the roses and the honeysuckle. The distillation takes about 12 hours and is then left to mature for a week before diluting to 42%.

Lussa Gin was manufactored as a London Dry Gin. Characterisics are:
Juniper note almost always very dominant
Addition of artificial additives/flavours strictly prohibited
Addition of sugar limited to 0,5g per litre
The gin must be distilled at least 3 times
Alcohol content must be at least 37.5%
Basic alcohol must have an agricultural origin
