What is special about the Lussa Gin?

We are three women who grow and gather our botanicals from the Isle of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland. Uniquely we freeze the majority of our botanicals, rather than drying them to create a zesty, aromatic gin. Jura has a population of just over 200 people and is a two ferry journey from the mainland. How is the Lussa Gin made?

We start with a base spirit, made with grain then add our spring water in the 100 litre alembic, copper pot still called Hamish. Most of our botanicals go into the pot with the exception of our tender flower petals like the roses and the honeysuckle. The distillation takes about 12 hours and is then left to mature for a week before diluting to 42%. Read more
